A Look Behind the Scenes: Baymeadows Movers Partners with Chipman and OMA to Remove Legacy Equipment from AMC Theatres

July 20, 2026

Most customers walk into a movie theater focused on the movie they're about to see. They notice the giant screen, plush seats, and maybe the smell of fresh popcorn. What they don't see is all that unfolds behind the scenes to bring that experience to life—or what it takes when it's time to retire decades of gear and make room for the future.

Not long ago, Baymeadows Movers was able to partner with Chipman Relocation & Logistics on a unique commercial moving project via our membership in the Office Moving Alliance (OMA). As a team, we assisted with the removal of older projection equipment from several AMC Theatre locations. It was not your usual commercial move. It demanded careful planning, specialized equipment, experienced crews, and seamless coordination between reliable relocation partners.

Jobs like these are part of why we love what we do. No two commercial moves are exactly the same, and that's what keeps our work engaging.

Every Commercial Move Has a Story

Every Commercial Move Has a StoryOne of the best elements of commercial moving is the range of work.

During one week we're relocating an entire school before students come back for the new year. The next we're transporting physical therapy equipment to a new healthcare facility. Then we are inside a movie theater, carefully taking apart and hauling out equipment that has entertained millions of people over the years.

This AMC project was especially memorable because it involved removing large digital cinema projection systems, along with several pieces of historic 35mm projection equipment. Walking into the projection booths felt like traveling back in time. Some of the film projectors and reels had been part of the movie-going experience long before digital projection was established as the standard in the industry.

For film fans, it was riveting.

For our crew, it was a reflection that every piece of equipment we move has its own history.

Great Projects Begin with Thoughtful Planning

Great Projects Begin with Thoughtful PlanningMoves like this do not begin when the moving truck arrives.

Long before the first projector is taken down, our team carefully coordinates logistics, scheduling, access points, equipment requirements, manpower, and safety planning.

Collaborating with Chipman Relocation & Logistics, we managed every phase of the project to make sure each theater could be completed efficiently and safely. One of the greatest benefits of being part of the Office Moving Alliance (OMA) is having access to a nationwide network of seasoned commercial movers who share the same dedication to professionalism and customer service. By pairing Chipman's national relocation expertise with Baymeadows Movers' local knowledge and project management experience, we were able to execute the work seamlessly from start to finish.

Movie theaters weren't constructed with equipment removal in mind.

Projection booths tend to be tucked away on upper levels with cramped corridors, constricted doorways, and restricted access. Some buildings have elevators, while others do not. Transporting large projection systems through those spaces demands much more than simply putting them on a dolly and wheeling toward the truck.

Each challenge must be identified before any work begins.

That's where experience truly matters.

It's About Much More Than Just Muscle

It's About Much More Than Just MuscleIt's often assumed that moving heavy equipment is simply about raw strength.

The truth is that commercial moving comes down to planning, technique, and having the right tools for the job.

Jobs like the AMC equipment removal demand specialized dollies, rigging equipment, lift systems, protective materials, and skilled crews who know how to carefully maneuver oversized equipment through confined spaces.

Each projector had to be carefully disconnected, protected, maneuvered through the building, and carefully loaded for transport.

Most of these systems are not only heavy—they're also extremely delicate. One accidental bump into a doorway or uneven transition could cause significant damage.

Patience and communication are every bit as important as raw strength.

Protecting the Building Is Equally Important

While our focus is on carefully moving equipment, we're equally focused on safeguarding the customer's facility.

Commercial buildings represent a sizable investment, and even minor repairs can become disruptive and costly.

When a project is complete, our goal is for customers to remember how easy the whole experience felt, not the moving process itself.

Working Together Makes the Difference

Sizable commercial moving projects are never a one-person job.

Each member of the crew has a specific role, and communication is critical from beginning to end.

One person may be guiding equipment through a doorway while another stabilizes the load. Someone else is tracking clearances, while another crew member is readying the next piece for transport.

When experienced crews work as a team, there is a rhythm that develops. That's expertise that isn't learned overnight.

Seeing our team work together was a clear example of what happens when seasoned movers share the same dedication to safety, communication, and customer service.

A Little Fun Along the Way

Baymeadows Moving and Storage team having a little funEven during challenging commercial projects, it's important to enjoy the experience.

Working inside movie theaters absolutely had its perks.

Our guys couldn't resist slipping downstairs for some movie snacks in between jobs on the project. After spending the day behind the scenes where few people ever get to go, popcorn somehow tasted even better.

These moments make long workdays memorable and remind us that while we take our work seriously, we also enjoy what we do.

Commercial Moving Is More Than Transportation

Commercial Moving Is More Than TransportationPlenty of people assume moving companies simply load trucks and unload them at another location.

Commercial moving is so much more than that.

Projects often involve logistics planning, inventory management, warehousing, project management, scheduling, handling of specialized equipment, and coordinating multiple contractors.

Every customer has different needs.

Certain businesses must relocate hundreds of employees over a single weekend.

Some need sensitive medical equipment transported without disruption.

Some projects happen overnight to reduce downtime.

Others—like the AMC project—involve carefully extracting specialized equipment from unique environments.

Every project requires flexibility, foresight, and problem solving.

At Baymeadows Movers, when somebody asks, "Can you help with this?" our first response is almost always, "Let's figure out how."

Experience Builds Confidence

For decades, Baymeadows Movers has faithfully served Jacksonville and Northeast Florida, and we've learned that successful projects consistently come down to the same basics:

Preparation.

Communication.

Professionalism.

Trust.

Our customers know we'll come ready, keep them informed throughout the project, respect their property, and fix problems instead of causing them.

Whether we're working inside schools, hospitals, office buildings, warehouses, government facilities, entertainment venues, or commercial campuses, our approach remains the same.

Protect the customer.

Protect the equipment.

Finish the work safely.

Leave the site better than we found it.

Protecting a Piece of Movie History

Protecting a Piece of Movie HistoryOne of the unexpected highlights of this project was discovering some of the original 35mm projection systems that once brought countless movies to life.

Well before streaming services and digital cinema, these machines created lasting experiences for generations of moviegoers.

Standing beside them gave our crew a true appreciation for how much technology has evolved over the years.

It's not every morning that a moving company has the chance to help retire a small piece of entertainment history.

Speaking for us, it really was a moment we'll never forget.
